Q4 2020 Navigation & Maps App Performance in Europe on iOS

As the year 2020 came to a close, the navigation and maps category on the iOS platform saw varying performances across its top applications in Europe. Sensor Tower provides detailed insights into how these apps fared in terms of downloads and weekly active users.

Google Maps remained a leading choice among users, with downloads starting at 443K in early October and peaking at 431K by the end of December. The weekly active users showed a slight fluctuation, with numbers starting at 63M in late September, dipping to 57M in late November, and then climbing back to 58M by the year's end.

Waze Navigation & Live Traffic also experienced a steady influx of users, with downloads beginning at 110K in the first week of October and reaching 126K in the last week of December. The app's weekly active users saw a more noticeable dip from 11.7M in late September to 8.6M in early November, before gradually increasing to 10.5M by the end of December.

Google Earth downloads were consistent, with the app seeing a slight increase from 83K to 99K over the quarter. The weekly active users for Google Earth started at 606K and ended the quarter with a rise to 624K.

Google Street View witnessed a varied trend in downloads, initially at 27K in late September, peaking at 44K in late October, and closing the quarter with 30K. The weekly active users were relatively stable, starting at 54K and slightly rising to 56K by the end of December.

Lastly, what3words: Navigation & Maps saw its downloads begin at 15K, dip to 11K in early November, and then surge to 35K in the final week of December. The active users for what3words started at approximately 80K, dipped to 72K in early November, and experienced a significant increase to 121K in the closing week of the year.
